
Expos blank Capitals 4-0, wait for playoffs to begin (posted July 22, 2008)
BY MARK DeCOTIS - FLORIDA TODAY - July 15, 2008The Brevard County Cocoa Expos closed their Women's Premier Soccer League regular season in style, defeating the host Puerto Rico Capitals FC 4-0 on Saturday night.
The victory moved the Expos' record to 11-0-1 and avenged the only blemish on their season, a scoreless tie with the visiting Capitals in May.
The Sunshine Conference-champion Expos now prepare for the first round of the WPSL playoffs the weekend of July 24 to 26 at home against the yet-to-be-determined Midwest Conference champion. Only three of 12 WPSL teams have firm assurances of post-season play
SACRAMENTO, CA (07/10/08) - Heading into the final weekends of the regular season, the war for the remaining spots in the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) playoffs have now evolved from minor skirmishes to do-or-die battles. Such is the case this weekend as only three out of 12 possible playoff teams - SoccerPlus CT & the New England Mutiny of the East Conference and Sunshine champion Brevard County Cocoa Expos - have firmly clinched their spots in the WPSL post-season. BY LYN DOWLING - FOR FLORIDA TODAY - June 1, 2008If you like a match that offers great grace and lots of goals, Saturday's Women's Premier Soccer League match between the Cocoa Expos and Puerto Rico Capitals was not one you'd want to see.
If, on the other hand, you appreciate a tug-of-war between two physical teams, or simply love great defending and midfield play, Cocoa Expo was the place to be, as the Capitals played the Expos to a scoreless draw in a highly contentious match.
"I would use the word 'aggressive,' " Cocoa captain Courtney Baines said as she shook off the results of a number of knocks. "It was very aggressive and overly rough . . . I lost count of how many fouls they had." [Read more...]
